Number one pub to eat in Herefordshire 2014-2015…
Visited the pub recently while on a long weekend in Wales and went on recommendation so popped over the border and had the best tasting Sunday Roast from a pub ever. The staff were polite, friendly and keen to provide a good service. Highly recommend this place and if I had needed accommodation I would have felt confident staying there from the experience we had.
This is the first time we have visited, we were a party of 12, we were made to feel very welcome and the food amazing! We will be back.
Book now for Sunday lunch, we will confirm via email:

We’re going to be on TV! Catch us on Channel 4 in Four In A Bed…
The Bridge Inn, Michaelchurch Escley, is thrilled to announce it will feature in Four In A Bed every weekday next week on Channel 4 (from March 9-13).
The programme, which attracts around a million viewers daily, is an entertaining watch which pits B&B owners against each other asking them to rate each other’s rooms and breakfasts.
Owner Glyn Bufton (pictured left, with chef Paul) will appear on the programme with his Bridge Inn chef Paul Chicken. As well as hosting a film crew and guests at The Bridge Inn farmhouse B&B in Michaelchurch Escley, near Hay-on-Wye, they visited three other B&Bs around the country in Dumfries, Yorkshire and Shrewsbury.
Glyn said: “We are thrilled to have this publicity. We’ve been running the pub since 2011 and the B&B since last year and have already attracted some celebrity guests, including Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, the MP David Blunkett and actress Miriam Margoyles, but reaching a TV audience this big is fantastic for us.”
Glyn adds: “Of course I can’t reveal the final outcome, you’ll have to watch the programme, but safe to say it will involve some lively discussion!”

Snowy mountains high enough?
Still plenty of snow on the Brecon Beacons. The Black Mountains are looking pretty white to me – great walking in the crisp white stuff up there (don’t forget to go well kitted out though).
We can see the Cat‘s Back (on Hay Bluff) and the Black Hill in the Black Mountains from the Bridge Farmhouse windows - it’s very tempting to get your walking boots on.
Of course there’s gentler walking in the area too if you’re not the mountaineering type!
Oh and don’t forget we have lobster topped Cioppino available on the menu this evening (see below for info).

A taste of San Francisco will be served at The Bridge Inn from today
Come on down for a taste of the West Coast in Michaelchurch Escley today. We’re serving up Cioppino at The Bridge Inn today – a traditional San Franciscan dish made from the ‘catch of the day’. We hope to have it on the menu at the weekend too!
A typical Cioppino seafood dish
Typically Cioppino is made from a combination of crab, clams, shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels and fish all sourced from the Pacific Ocean. The seafood is then combined with fresh tomatoes in a wine sauce, and we’ll be serving it with our fresh bread or maybe a little garlic bread.
As our chef Paul has managed to source a small supply of Lobsters so he plans to top it with half a lobster tail - so if you like a bit of seafood you know where to head this weekend!

Anyone for a pint of Butty? - It’s good for you (no, really!)
At The Bridge Inn in Michaelchurch we never need an excuse to sample a delicious pint from Herefordshire’s Wye Valley Brewery (the maker of Butty Bach and other fine real ales). The only hard bit is how to stop once you have the taste for it!
But now it seems our favourite tipple could actually be good for our health too…
According to a report in the Daily Telegraph today, scientists in China have found that drinking beer could help protect the brain from a number of degenerative brain diseases.
They claim that xanthohumol, a type of flavinoid found in hops, could help protect the brain against the onset of Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and dementia.
And since as Butty Bach is the main ingredient in the sauce for our beef pie, known as the Escleyside Pie, it seems a pint and a pie could be both delicious and good for your health. Cheers!

Reviews
- “This place is amazing. We are locals but driving to the bridge rolls back the centuries. The pub itself is beautifully old school with great beers, beams and stone floors. The food, however, is very modern and quite simply excellent, Staff are friendly and professional. Love this place, a real gem.” Archae
